About Hospital Clínic de Barcelona
Hospital Clínic de Barcelona (HCB) is a university tertiary hospital located in Barcelona with almost 4,000 employees (600 physicians and 2,600 nurses) and €450 million annual budget.
An HTA unit was founded within the hospital in 2009. It is placed under the Research and Innovation Directorate. Since its establishment, 28 health technologies have been assessed, including capital equipment (e.g. surgical robot), medium (e.g. electro-scalpel "MarSeal") and small sized technologies (e.g. deep brain stimulation for Parkinson disease), procedures (e.g. amniotic membrane transplantation for treatment of venous leg ulcers) and diagnostic procedures (e.g. multigene assay test for breast cancer). The assessment procedure is very inclusive, involving clinicians, managers and other healthcare professionals related to the health technology being assessed.
